A famous 20th Century novelist, Somerset Maugham, wrote that the French Riviera was “a sunny place for shady people”.
Many of today’s ultra-wealthy inhabit Monte Carlo, where taxes are minimal, because they perceive it to be safe.
Sadly, Madame Helene Pastor, (77) its richest woman, whose family fortune is, reportedly, E 20 billion, became the victim of a Mafia-style murder last Saturday.
Local journalist believe the motive was control of her property empire.
